Voices for Equality - Identity's Advocacy Program

Welcome to the home of Identity Advocacy Team. Our purpose is to advocate the rights of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender individuals for an inclusive community for all.

The Advocacy Program is an ongoing proactive effort to inform Alaskans that the GLBT community plays a valuable role in creating a better environment for all of us. The Identity Advocacy Team is a respected and recognized team who individually and collectively educates the larger Alaskan community to build GLBT equality. The team facilitates broad-based strategies by modeling proactive advocacy and is committed to sustainable participation and visibility.

Through education and partnership, we can develop alliances and understanding to expand our voice in the Alaskan community. We hope you will be interested in joining our efforts. This site is a open forum for discussion of issues as well as a tool to assist in advocacy efforts.

• March 2008 Jackie Buckley and Fred Hillman present information on standards of practice for health care services to the GLBT community, cultural competency, intake and interview language, increased access to care at the Providence Family Medicine Center's Noon Didactics to about 20 residents and 2 faculty.
• December 2007 Pride Foundation grants $5,000 in support of Identity's Advocacy Program
• December 2007 Advocacy Team joins with Anchorage PFLAG in providing GLBT information table at 2007 Alaska Health Summit
• October 2007 Identity Advocacy Team members take part in Mayor's Diversity Awards as part of Diversity Month
• October 2007 Anchorage Daily News, letter to the editor in support of GLBT individuals as part of National Coming Out Day by Edie Bailey
• October 2007 Anchorage Daily News "Compass" column in response to negative column opposing hate crimes protections for BLBT individuals, written by Rev. Johnathan Jones
• September 2007 Presentation at Office for Public Advocacy Conference on communicating to the GLBT community on mentoring for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) by Jackie Buckley, Larry Michael and Mary Parker
